Avakas Gorge
A rocky path between rugged mountain boulders The route through the gorge is characterised by thick vegetation and a particularly attractive, shady and moist environment. While hiking you can study the indigenous plants: lentisk (Pistacia lentiscus), Phoenician juniper (Juniperus phoenicea), terebinth (Pistacia terebinthus), thorny broom (Calycotome villosa), common smilax (Smilax aspera), oleander (Nerium oleander), storax (Styrax officinalis), and the endemic endangered Akamas centaury (Centaurea akamantis). The main species of fauna found in the area are: Mammals: Fox, hare, hedgehog. Birds: Cyprus wheatear (endemic), Cyprus warbler (endemic), scops owl (endemic), partridge, little owl, kestrel, wild pigeon. Reptiles: Stellion lizard. Amphibians: Marsh frog, iridescent frog, tree frog.

Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station
On a secluded beach away from hotels, shops, and any public facilities, the tiny wooden Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station helps baby turtles hatch and head for the sea. Sometimes during hatching season, there will be water tanks with tiny sea turtles inside that have just come out of their eggs at the station. At other times, you'll encounter iron cages and signs scattered along the beach warning of turtle nests buried in the sand underneath. Cages protect them from predators such as birds and foxes.

Akamas, is a promontory and cape at the northwest extremity of Cyprus with an area of 230 square kilometres. Ptolemy described it as a thickly wooded headland, divided into two by summits [a mountain range] rising towards the north.

Baths of Aphrodite
The natural grotto of the Baths of Aphrodite, and its botanical garden, can be found past the fishing harbour of Latsi, and towards the tip of the Akamas Peninsula. Shaded by an old fig tree, amidst lush greenery, legend tells that the Ancient Greek Goddess Aphrodite used to bathe in the waters.

The EDRO III was a cargo ship, built in 1966 by Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted at Tonsberg in Norway. The Sierra Leone-flagged EDRO III ran aground off Pegeia on 8 October 2011 in heavy seas, during a voyage to Rhodes, from Limassol, Cyprus with a cargo of plasterboard. At the time of the accident, the ship had nine crew members – seven Albanians and two Egyptians. The crew were rescued and airlifted to the safety of Paphos by a local British Military helicopter.
