About Athalassa National Forest Park
Athalassa National Forest Park is one of Nicosia’s most beloved outdoor destinations, offering a natural getaway in the middle of the city’s urban landscape. Covering over 840 hectares, the park is a mix of pine forest, shrubland, and open fields, making it ideal for walking, jogging, cycling, or simply relaxing in nature. Its network of well-marked trails attracts both locals and visitors seeking exercise, fresh air, and a scenic environment close to the capital.
At the heart of the park lies Athalassa Lake, an artificial reservoir surrounded by wetlands that attract migratory birds and local wildlife, making it a favorite spot for birdwatching and photography. Families often gather in the park’s picnic areas for weekend outings, while the Athalassa Environmental Information Center provides interactive exhibits about the flora, fauna, and history of the park.
Because it sits right next to Nicosia and Strovolos, Athalassa is easy to reach and offers a welcome contrast to the busy city streets. It’s especially popular in spring and autumn when the weather is perfect for outdoor activities and the landscape is rich with color.
